This was probably the amp that started my DIY audio hobby. At the very least it was one of the first ones I built. It was a kit very much suitable for someone who doesn't know much about electronics but still likes high quality audio. At the time the LM3886 op-amp chip was all the rage and for a very good reason. It really is an excellent sounding amplifier and I still use it every day.
Originally the amp kit was assembled in an ugly aluminium housing that I cobbled together from scrap pieces. The the amp sat in storage for years and one day I decided to design and build a proper enclosure for it. The amp basically still sits on a piece of aluminium plate but the surrounding case is made of birchwood, fiberboard, leather, brass etc. making it non-compliant with vegan Hi-Fi standards.
